Federal Lawsuit Seeks Marriage Equality in Nevada

Today, Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund took a step toward marriage equality by filing a federal lawsuit in Nevada seeking equal rights for eight same-sex couples. The lawsuit is similar to a case filed by Lambda Legal in New Jersey state court that included federal claims but this is the first time that they have sought equal marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples in federal court.

The lawsuit, Sevcik v. Sandoval centers around Beverly Sevcik, 73, and Mary Baranovich, 76, of Carson City, Nevada. The couple has been together 40 years and raised three children. Read more
