#LGBTQ: Grindr Profile Posts Threatening Message About Attacks on Gay Bars

A message posted on Grindr yesterday threatened a possible attack to local gay bars in Ostend on coast of Belgium.

The anonymously posted message read,

Tonight or this weekend, we will conduct an attack in the gay bars of Ostend. Prepare yourself. Nobody can stop us. We are 27 people.

It indicated gay bars Valentino and Your Place as potential targets. The username chosen by the Grindr user is ‘Aanslag’, Dutch for ‘attacker’.

The Brussels Times reports, after calls, local police have launched an investigation. The local prosecutor’s office says they are still unsure whether this was a prank or a real threat.

A DJ from the bar Valentino told Belgian online magazine Tetu,

The LGBTQ community is too often the target of attacks, this homophobia has to stop.

Oddly, as small as this town is, visited there about 20 years ago. It’s not far from the beautiful city of Bruges.
