Let's be honest about something: most health apps aren't built for us. They don't account for PrEP adherence. They don't understand HRT schedules. They don't include validated depression and anxiety screenings alongside crisis resources for LGBTQ+ youth. They don't know that "find a provider" means finding someone who won't misgender you, someone who understands the specific health needs of queer and trans people, someone who won't make you educate them before they can treat you. The new QVegas Wellness platform is built to fill that gap. Available on the website at qvegas.com/wellness and through the Wellness tab in the iOS app, it's the most comprehensive LGBTQ+ health resource ever integrated into a community publication. The Crisis Resources Come First Open the wellness page on the website and the first thing you see isn't a fitness tracker or a medication reminder. It's a row of crisis resources with direct-dial phone numbers: the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, The Trevor Project for LGBTQ+ youth, Trans Lifeline staffed entirely by transgender people, Crisis Text Line, the SAMHSA National Helpline for substance use, and The Center Las Vegas. This was a deliberate design choice. In a community where LGBTQ+ youth are more than four times more likely to attempt suicide than their peers, where transgender adults face disproportionate mental health challenges, and where substance use disorders intersect with social stigma in devastating ways — immediate access to help must come before everything else. In the iOS app, crisis resources appear in the Mood & Journal section, always one tap from any wellness screen. Medication Tracking That Understands Our Medications The medication tracker isn't a generic pill reminder. It's organized around the medication categories our community actually uses: PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention), ART (antiretroviral therapy), HRT (hormone replacement therapy), mental health medications, and supplements. Each medication can be tracked with its name, dosage, form (tablet, capsule, injection, patch, and more), scheduled times, and refill dates. The adherence calendar gives you a visual history of whether you took your medications on schedule — important for PrEP effectiveness and critical for ART and HRT protocols. On iPhone, reminders integrate with your notification system. Later this Spring, our Apple Watch app shows your medication schedule right on your wrist. Mental Health, Not Just Physical Health The Mood & Journal feature combines three approaches to mental wellness. Quick mood check-ins let you log how you're feeling on a five-point emoji scale. Over time, this creates a pattern you can share with your therapist or simply use for your own awareness. Journaling provides a private, encrypted space to write freely. No prompts, no structure — just a timestamp and your words. Every entry remains ecrypted throughout our ecosystem. Validated screenings go further. The PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionnaire) screens for depression severity. The GAD-7 (Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale) screens for anxiety. These aren't quizzes from the internet — they're the same clinically validated instruments your doctor uses. Your scores are encrypted and visible only to you, but they can help you recognize when it's time to seek support and give your provider concrete data when you do. Find Care That's Right for You The wellness provider directory is curated for LGBTQ+ healthcare needs. Filter by service type — HIV/STI testing, mental health, gender-affirming care, or primary care — and the results show providers who serve our community. Each provider listing includes practical badges: FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center, meaning income-based sliding-scale fees), free testing, walk-in availability, sliding scale, case management, and emergency aid. These aren't marketing labels — they're the real-world details that determine whether you can actually access care. On the website, the Community Health Partners section highlights anchor organizations. In the app, providers appear on an interactive map so you can find care near you. Apple Health Integration The QVegas app syncs with Apple Health to bring your activity, vitals, and sleep data into one dashboard. Steps, workouts across 55+ activity types, resting heart rate, blood pressure, body composition, and sleep quality all appear in real time. You control this integration completely. Grant access to only the data types you're comfortable sharing, and revoke it anytime. The data flows one way — from Apple Health into QVegas — and is never sold, shared, or used for advertising. Ever. Privacy Is Not Optional This is worth emphasizing because it matters more in healthcare than anywhere else: every piece of wellness data in QVegas is encrypted. Your medication names, your dosages, your journal entries, your mood scores, your screening results — all encrypted before they're stored. This is a HIPAA-aligned approach to data privacy, implemented not because a law required it for a magazine app, but because our community has earned the right to control its own health information. Wellness as Community Infrastructure QVegas Wellness isn't trying to replace your doctor, your therapist, or the organizations doing the frontline work of LGBTQ+ health in Southern Nevada. It's trying to be the connective tissue — the platform that helps you track your own health, find the right providers, and access crisis support when you need it. It's health infrastructure for a community that deserves better than generic apps built for someone else. It's wellness built for us. Wellness features in the iOS app are pending AppStore approval and are expected to be released in early April.
