The holiday season in Las Vegas will shine even brighter this year with Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN)’s annual celebration, "Blue Christmas: A Celebration of Holiday Carols & Cuisine", happening on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 1 p.m. This vibrant event will take place at the iconic House of Blues inside Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, combining music, food, and community in support of a vital cause.
Hosted by the fabulous Edie, a Las Vegas entertainment legend, "Blue Christmas" will feature performances from a star-studded lineup, headlined by David Hernandez, a Top 12 finalist from *American Idol*. Joining him will be celebrated local artists Brett Pruneau, Cierra Bliss, and Estevan Velasco, all lending their exceptional talents to create a memorable afternoon of holiday magic.
“Blue Christmas is a celebration of the holiday spirit and of our community,” says Antioco Carrillo, Executive Director of AFAN. “This event reflects the unity and resilience of those affected by HIV/AIDS as we work to ensure that everyone receives the support and care they need.”
A Meaningful Mission
More than just an afternoon of entertainment, "Blue Christmas" underscores the importance of HIV/AIDS awareness. The event coincides with World AIDS Day, bringing focus to AFAN’s ongoing mission to educate and support individuals and families impacted by the disease. A key message of this year’s event is U=U (Undetectable Equals Untransmittable). This initiative highlights that individuals living with HIV who achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load through consistent treatment cannot transmit the virus to others.
For the past 40 years, AFAN has been at the forefront of the fight against HIV/AIDS in Southern Nevada. As the state’s largest and oldest AIDS service organization, AFAN provides an array of services, including HIV testing, medical case management, housing assistance, food programs, and community outreach. Through events like "Blue Christmas," the organization continues its work to foster a stigma-free, well-informed community.
Star Power on Stage
Headlining the afternoon, David Hernandez is set to dazzle the audience with his soulful vocals and dynamic stage presence. A standout talent from *American Idol’s* seventh season, Hernandez has since become a versatile performer and global artist. From performing alongside music icons like John Legend and Maroon 5 to releasing chart-topping singles such as “Beautiful,” David’s career is a testament to resilience and artistry. His most recent EP, *Don’t @ Me*, showcases his evolution as a self-made artist, blending powerful lyrics with infectious melodies.
Hernandez’s voice will be complemented by local stars Brett Pruneau, known for his powerful interpretations of musical classics; Cierra Bliss, a rising vocalist with a dynamic range; and Estevan Velasco, an artist celebrated for his heartfelt performances. Each artist brings their unique style, creating a well-rounded lineup that promises to uplift and inspire.
A Feast for the Senses
Of course, no event at the House of Blues would be complete without its signature Southern hospitality. Guests at "Blue Christmas" will enjoy a selection of tantalizing cuisine that blends comfort and creativity. The venue itself, adorned with its iconic folk art and state-of-the-art sound and lighting, provides the perfect backdrop for this festive celebration.
Supporting a Legacy of Care
Proceeds from "Blue Christmas" will directly benefit AFAN’s programs and services, ensuring that the organization can continue providing much-needed resources to the community. From medical transportation to housing assistance and educational outreach, AFAN remains dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by HIV/AIDS.
